What are we born into?  What do we inherit, carry, and what are we burdened with?

The Hatching is a new performance from award-winning poet and playwright Yomi Ṣode, exploring the layered themes of belonging, identity, and responsibility in a world that isn't equal.

Told in three parts, Ou Topos (no place), Eu Topos (good place), and The Custodians, The Hatching asks what it means to be born into systems we didn’t choose. It examines structures like law, media, and politics; while also reflecting on the moral and personal choices we make within them.

Drawing from Yomi’s poetry collection Manorism, alongside new work and contributions from both emerging and established poets, the show blends poetry, spoken word, movement and audio-visual storytelling. It considers how the roles we play today might shape the future.

This is not just a performance. It is a space for reflection, reckoning, and radical imagination.

Part of Utopia Now!, a season exploring the role of the arts in making a better future possible.

Remarkable, textured ... Yomi Ṣode is a beautiful storyteller
