What can music bring to the conversation about our changing planet?

On Earth Day, climate podcast Outrage + Optimism joins forces with Orchestra for the Earth for an evening of live conversation and orchestral music exploring the climate crisis, the roles of outrage and optimism, and the part music can play in connecting us with the natural world.

The conversation is led by Outrage + Optimism co-host Christiana Figueres, former UN climate chief and one of the principal architects of the Paris Agreement, in conversation with conductor John Warner. It unfolds alongside music performed by Orchestra for the Earth as they consider how music and the arts can inspire connection and action in response to the climate crisis.

Following questions from the audience, the evening culminates in Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, a journey from its urgent C minor opening to a triumphant C major finale which, in Warner’s words, “begins in outrage and ends in optimism”.

Part of Planetary Health, a season exploring the relationship between human health and the health of the planet.
