Renowned classical pianist Angela Hewitt performs a recital of Beethoven piano sonatas, tracing the composer's extraordinary musical journey from his early works to his late masterpieces.

The programme moves from early sonatas full of charm and elegance to the passion and drama of the iconic Pathétique, the searching intensity of The Tempest – written as Beethoven came to terms with his growing deafness – before concluding with the penultimate Piano Sonata, Op. 110. A work of profound beauty and serenity that perhaps offers a glimpse of a composer at peace with the world.

This performance is part of the Oxford International Piano Series which also features Paul Lewis: Mozart+ at the Schwarzman Centre on 11 February.
