Schwarzman Centre announces new 2027 season
9 October 2026
Yo-Yo Ma, De La Soul, Lia Kim, Anoushka Shankar, Wayne McGregor, Marshmallow Laser Feast and more feature in an extraordinary new season of music, dance, theatre, exhibitions, film and immersive experiences.
The Schwarzman Centre has unveiled its new cultural programme for January to July 2027, bringing together extraordinary artists, bold ideas and experiences from Oxford and around the world.
World-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma takes up a mini-residency at the Centre, while hip-hop pioneers De La Soul curate a day exploring hip hop, health and wellbeing. Legendary choreographer Lia Kim joins leading South Korean artists and Oxford researchers for K-FLOW: Riding the Korean Wave, and Marshmallow Laser Feast presents a new immersive multisensory installation inspired by birdsong.
They are joined by Anoushka Shankar, Wayne McGregor, Cao Fei, the Quay Brothers, Manchester Collective, Orchestra for the Earth and many more.
Where arts and research meet
At the heart of the season are collaborations between artists and Oxford researchers, exploring some of the big questions shaping our world.
The Centre's Cultural Fellows Anoushka Shankar, Wayne McGregor and Marshmallow Laser Feast present work developed through creative and academic collaborations, spanning sound, wellbeing, the human body and artificial intelligence.
Running through the season is Planetary Health, exploring the connections between the health of people, societies and the natural world.
Highlights include Orchestra for the Earth performing Beethoven's Fifth Symphony alongside a live edition of climate podcast Outrage + Optimism, co-hosted by former UN climate chief Christiana Figueres; Manchester Collective's WEATHER, combining music, film and environmental sound; and and Precision Planet, an exhibition bringing together work by Cao Fei and new commissions from Xin Liu, Abbas Zahedi and Tega Brain / Sam Lavigne.
From intimate concerts and world premieres to large-scale cultural celebrations, there's much more to discover across the Centre.
