Rocks. Beats. Geological bodies. Stone circles. Copper mining.

Both an immersive physical theatre production and interactive installation artwork, Megalith invites audiences into a wild new encounter with rocks, sound and light. A fun, loud and lyrical smash-fest, with projection design from award-winning Limbic Cinema and geological consultation with Professor Jon Blundy.

With copper having jet-fuelled technology for the last 10,000 years, the Megalith theatre show sees a performer and sound artist playfully duet to deep-time techno, metamorphic soundscapes and the Internet of Things. Neolithic flint tools smash stones and tech in this wildly physical journey to the origins – and 21st-century challenges – of mining.

Alongside the performance, audiences can get hands-on with the Megalith installation: mine stone with antlers like a Neolithic miner, lie back and listen to the slow geological rumble of rocks, or wander with magic stones within a giant stone circle as lights dance and flow around you.

MECHANIMAL is a multi-award-winning creative company based in Bristol, presenting live performance and immersive experiences that explore life on a changing planet. The company, led by creative director Tom Bailey, tours work both in the UK and internationally, recently presenting work in the UK, Norway, China and Colombia. Megalith is kindly supported by FAMOS, Arts Council England, Professor Jon Blundy and the Oxford Cultural Programme.

This event will take place off-site at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History, Parks Road, Oxford OX1 3PW.
