Oxford has a long history of crime and skullduggery—in the realm of mystery fiction, of course. Is it the twisty streets and impenetrable buildings? Or a natural revolt against the focus of academic endeavour?  Was Sherlock Holmes an undergraduate here? (Where else?) Why did Mary Shelley’s manuscript of Frankenstein end up in the Bodleian? (Again: where else?)

These questions and more will be addressed by Laurie R. King (author of the bestselling series The Beekeeper’s Apprentice, etc., which inflicts adventures on Sherlock Holmes that Arthur Conan Doyle never imagined) and Leslie S. Klinger (author of The New Annotated Sherlock Holmes, The New Annotated Frankenstein, etc., and world expert on all manner of crime and horror fiction).

Join us as Laurie and Les talk about their shared love of footnotes, the world’s fascination with dark creatures such as Frankenstein’s monster and Count Dracula, graphic novels, the odd business of shaping a writing career around the work of others, and the necessity of keeping a straight face when discussing the reality of Sherlock Holmes.
