Between Laughter and Tears: The Political Cartoons of Ella Baron

Political cartooning at its most urgent and unsparing - a black comedy of our times, drawn at speed, charged with fear and hope.
Artist. Satirist. Chronicler. The political cartoonist is all of these. She works at the dizzying speed of a non-stop news cycle to create images that capture today, and question tomorrow, showing us this world through a glass darkly.
Bringing together work from across her practice alongside cartoons responding to the news as it happens, this exhibition offers a vivid snapshot of world events as they unfold, showcasing the remarkable work of Ella Baron, political cartoonist for The Guardian, and regular contributor to The Times and Sunday Times.
After studying English at the University of Oxford, Ella went on to be named Young Cartoonist of the Year in 2017. Ella has been resident artist at Sir John Soane’s Museum and The London Library and has drawn for Médecins Sans Frontières in refugee camps and conflict zones.
Between Laughter and Tears: The Political Cartoons of Ella Baron is brought to you by the TORCH Humour Network.
The TORCH Humour Network will hold a two-day conference - ‘Packing a Punch: Interdisciplinary Perspectives of Humour and Power’ – 5 and 6 February 2027
