Where sound, light and art meet in quiet contemplation

Experience James Weeks' Blue Hours within Edmund de Waal's installation another hour, bringing visual art and live music together in shared contemplation of the monastic hours.

Performed by GBSR Duo, this radical long-form work for piano, percussion and fixed media takes inspiration from the blue hour, the period before sunrise when blue light dominates the sky. Across three and a half hours, a richly textured landscape of resonant piano, percussion and electronic sound unfolds slowly, inviting audiences to listen differently and become absorbed in the smallest details.

Presented within de Waal's installation, Blue Hours offers a rare opportunity to experience two artistic reflections on ritual, time and contemplation together.

Part of Day of Psalms. Writer and artist Edmund de Waal curates a unique day celebrating the Psalms as songs of exile, diaspora, and devotion.

Blue Hours is an immersive work lasting 3 hours 30 mins. Audiences are welcome to leave and return quietly during the performance.
