Professor Anette Mikes

Anette Mikes is Associate Professor of Accounting at Oxford Saïd Business School and a Fellow of Hertford College, University of Oxford. Her research focuses on risk management, financial governance, sustainability and the ways organisations navigate complex and uncertain environments.

Mikes' work brings an accounting and risk governance perspective to some of the most pressing challenges of the twenty-first century. She examines how organisations and institutions confront uncertain futures shaped by climate change, technological disruption, geopolitical instability, and other systemic risks. Her research highlights the limitations of short-term financial metrics and emphasises the importance of resilience, responsibility, and long-term societal wellbeing in organisational decision-making.

Her current research project, Accounting, Capitalism and Systems Change, investigates the role that accounting, performance measurement, and risk-management practices play in shaping contemporary political and economic systems. Through this work, she explores how these practices can both reinforce existing structures and contribute to transformative societal change.

Mikes received the ACA Prize from the University of St Gallen for her work on risk management and financial governance, and the David Solomons Award (twice) for outstanding research in management accounting. She was recognised as a Thought Leader by Harvard Business Impact in 2023, holds an Honorary Fellowship at the Stockholm School of Economics, and has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Uppsala University.
